Race Rules & Etiquette

Your safety is our top priority. Please read and follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth and enjoyable race experience.

1. CUT-OFF TIME

There is no official cut-off time. Climb at your own pace and enjoy the challenge. The event will close at a reasonable time for safety and venue operations.

  • Bib must be worn visibly on the front.
  • Timing chip must remain attached and undamaged.
  • Bibs are non-transferable.
  • Participants without a valid bib will be denied entry.
  • Bib provides access to all official race areas.

  • Armband or running pouch


Note:
All items must be securely carried and must not obstruct the stairway.

  • Selfie sticks
  • Water bottles
  • Food inside stairwell
  • Backpacks or large bags
  • Hiking poles
  • Portable speakers
  • Drones or tripods
  • Sharp or loose objects
  • Performance-enhancing mechanical devices
  • Push or obstruct others
  • Descend the stairs unless instructed by officials
  • Walk side-by-side and block the route
  • Litter or spit inside the stairwell
  • Vandalise or damage venue property
  • Transfer race bibs
  • Behave in a manner that endangers others

: Spectators are not permitted inside the stairwell

Recommended Footwear

  • Running shoes with non-marking soles 

Prohibited Footwear

Barefoot or Socks only

  • Permitted strictly at participants’ own risk.

Attire

  • Wear appropriate sportswear. 
  • Minimal costumes are allowed, provided they do not affect safety.


Note
Race officials reserve the right to remove any participant, item, or equipment deemed unsafe, disruptive, or contrary to the spirit of the event.

Before Race

  • Arrive 30–60 minutes before your start time.
  • Wear your bib visibly on the front of your shirt.
  • Bring only approved items into the stairwell.
  • All participants are subject to a bag check before entering the start area.
  • Ensure you cross the start timing mat to record your official time.
  • If you have any medical condition, consult your doctor before participating.

During Race

  • Follow all instructions from race officials.
  • Keep moving at a pace comfortable for you.
  • If you feel unwell, stop immediately and alert a race marshal or medic.
  • Water stations are available at designated levels.
  • Dispose of cups before continuing.
  • Unsafe or inappropriate behaviour may result in disqualification.

Stairwell Etiquette

  • Use the inner left side of the stairs (fast lane) for overtaking. Keep to the outer right side (normal lane) if climbing at a slower pace.
  • Give way to faster participants.
  • Keep moving and stay in your lane. 
  • If you need to slow down, rest, or stop, move to the side corner and away from the active climbing path.
  • Do not sit, lie down, or stop on active stairs unless it is an emergency.

After Race Rules

  • Once you reach Level 118, keep moving until you cross the finish line and timing mat to record your official time.
  • Collect your finisher medal at the designated area.
  • If you feel unwell, seek medical assistance immediately.
  • Maximum 15 minutes in the Level 118 recovery/viewing area, then take the lift back down.
  • Use designated exit lifts only.
  • Follow staff instructions when exiting the venue.

The Sky RaceTM, certain rules apply to ensure safety, smooth race operations, and comfort for all.

Designated viewing and waiting areas include:

  • Stadium Merdeka arena
  • Merdeka 118 lobby (designated zone)
  • The Sky Race Expo Village (with activities, F&B, and merchandise)
